Happy Independence Day
We hope that however you are celebrating this Independence Day that you are doing it safely. Remember why the 4th of July is a holiday here in the USA -- and thank an active serviceman or retired veteran.
Quote of the Day

Some slaves are scoured to their work by whips, others by their restlessness and ambition. ~ Archimedes (Greek Philosopher)
Pure, Simple Pleasures
There's just something about nature that I find relaxing. On a short drive this morning, we saw a baby bunny, a squirrel, two woodpeckers, and some robins. Those aren't exactly what you'd call spectacular wild-life sightings. Yet, I got a chuckle from the antics of the bunny and the squirrel. It was simply fun to watch the birds pecking along, getting their breakfast. Perhaps that is why I find it relaxing -- pure, simple pleasures.

We All Need Reminders to Relax
Why is it so hard for Americans to relax? We know we need to relax. We know that without relaxation, we can't be fully rested and refreshed. We know that relaxing is vital to recharging our inner batteries. Yet, we fight it.
A few days ago, I found myself pushed too far. I was grumpy. Although I was working long hours, I wasn't getting done all the things I thought I should be getting done. And, then, I developed a pain in my rib cage that wasn't constant, but was definitely bothersome. Pain is my body's way of forcing me to relax.
So, today, you'll find me in my travel trailer, parked in a campground in Homer, Alaska. Looking out my window I see mountains, the ocean, and eagles. The pain in my side is going away. That's the sign that I'm getting my priorities in order.
Relax. Refresh. Recharge. I needed a reminder to practice what I preach!

Quote of the Day:
We find no real satisfaction or happiness in life without obstacles to conquer and goals to achieve. ~ Maxwell Maltz
Take Time to Enjoy the Moment
Take time to enjoy the little things in life -- the things you see but aren't looking for. Yesterday morning, we were going to garage sales. We followed signs and never did find one particular sale. But, looking for it, we did see a cow moose with a young calf. They were feeding along the roadway. What a cutie! It was one of those moments when we appreciate life in Alaska, the rural gravel roads, and the wildlife. We just stopped to watch.

Thought for the Day:
Troubles, like babies, grow larger by nursing. ~Lady Holland
You can choose to nurse your troubles and watch them grow until they consume you. Or, you can choose to focus on better and brighter things, and have a more positive result.

True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment. ~ William Penn
